Welcome back to this years’ edition of “Crackers Chronicles”.

This season, each week in this column we will trace some of the history of the Old Scotch Football Club by recounting the contributions made by some of our greatest players.  We will start with the OSCFC Team of the Century announced in 2000.

 

On 5 August 2000, at a dinner to celebrate our club’s 80th anniversary, the club announced its “Team of the Century”:

This week we focus on the backline players ...

 

P. A. Peter Brown

 

In 1975, Peter Brown was recruited from Scotch College and played three games while still at school.

He played 192 games for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club from 1975 – 1976 & 1982 – 1992. 

From 1977 – 1980 he played 44 games for the Fitzroy FC.  He was a Victorian representative in 1982, 1983 & 1984, and an Australian Amateur Football Council representative in 1983.

He was awarded a Life Member of our club in 1994.

 

J. M. Jim Lillie

 

In 1948, Jim Lillie was recruited from Scotch College and played 59 games for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club from 1948 – 1953.  He was a Victorian representative in 1951 and an Australian Amateur Football Council representative in 1951.  He captained our club in 1952.  Jim died in 2009.

 

R. S. Rohan Price

 

In 1992, Rohan Price was recruited from Scotch College and played 59 games for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club from 1992 – 2002.  He was a Victorian representative in 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999 & 2000 and an Australian Amateur Football Council representative in 2000.  He was our club’s Best & Fairest in 1998.

 

R. W. Rob Fuller (“Frosty”)

 

In 1982, Rob Fuller was recruited from Scotch College and played five games while still at school.  He then played four games for the Richmond FC in 1984.  He returned to our club in 1985 and played 157 games for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club in 1982 and from 1985 – 1995.  He was a Victorian representative in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 & 1995.  He captained Victoria in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 & 1994.  He was also an Australian Amateur Football Council representative in 1986, 1988, 1989 & 1994, and captained Australia in 1989 & 1994.  Rob captained our club for nine years from 1987 – 1995.

He was named VAFA Personality of the Year in 1993 and awarded a VAFA Certificate of Merit in 1994.

In 2000, he was named as vice-captain of the OSCFC Team of the Century.

He was awarded a Life Member of the Club in 2001, and named a VAFA Legend of the Big V in 2007.

 

M. W. Mick Perry (“Big Red”)

 

In 1962, Michael Perry was recruited from Scotch College and played 59 games for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club from 1962 – 1964, before being recruited by the Richmond FC.  He was our club’s Best & Fairest in 1963 & 1964, and a Victorian representative in 1964.  He then went on and played 53 games for the Richmond FC from 1965 – 1969.

 

R. W. Richard “Dick” Tindale

 

In 1955, Richard Tindale was recruited from Scotch College and played 60 games for the Old Scotch Collegians Football Club from 1955 – 1957 & 1962.  He was a Victorian representative in 1956, 1957 & 1962 and an Australian Amateur Football Council representative in 1956 in the Olympic Games demonstration Australian Rules Football match.  He also coached our Juniors in 1968.
