OLD SCOTCH: 7.12.54
For the third successive week the first XVIII were right in the game in the final minutes but again fell agonizingly short. After a moving Anzac Day tribute out at Wesley’s Glen Waverley campus, our men’s first XVIII played with great intent and were the first side to settle against the talent-loaded Collegians team. We again didn’t make our dominance count on the scoreboard and Collegians kicked the final three goals for the term to lead by 11 points at the first break.
We got going again in the second term and worked our way back into the contest and were level at half time. Our inaccuracy in the third term hurt as we could only register 5 behinds and headed into the final quarter 10 points in arrears. Despite Collegians scoring the first major in the final break, our boys kept on pushing and drew level with 5 minutes to play. A few back half errors would ultimately cost us as Collegians scored the last 7 points of the game to run out 7 point winners.
