OLD MELBURNIANS: 9.6.70
OLD SCOTCH: 8.14.62
The men’s senior team failed to fire a shot for most of the first quarter and would be again left to rue their slow start. With the use of a slight breeze we failed to make any impact as Old Melburnians gained the initial ascendency, scoring four goals into the wind while we could only register one.
A significantly improved work rate in the second quarter saw us turn the tables and take a five point lead at the major break. Another poor start to the third term saw OMs score the first goal immediately and regain their early momentum.
The last quarter was a real arm wrestle but we again failed to put any real scoreboard pressure on our opposition. OMs, with the use of the breeze in the final term, controlled the quarter for significant periods after we challenged early through a goal to Lachie Strathmore but in the end were too strong and won by 8 points, claiming the Australian Rules Cup in the process. It would be fair to say that we have done a good job of emptying the trophy cabinet over the past month!
