OLD XAVERIANS: 12.18-90
OLD SCOTCH: 4.8-32
It was a game to forget the Old Scotch Reserves side on the week with the boys being convincingly outplayed by a more determined and classier Old Xavs side.
We arrived at Toorak Park full knowing the importance of the job at hand, Old Xaverians in the reserves have been the yard stick over the last half-decade and with finals on the line we needed to come out strongly.
The first quarter saw a wayward Old Xaverians side kick 2 goals 6 behinds to our 1 point. Nic Bennison was our only forward stepping up to the plate as he constantly harassed the opposition backmen.
The second term saw us open our goal account with a fantastic pressure goal kicked by young gun Tom Anderson, who with injures in the seniors is looking towards his first birth at a 2pm crack. Jules beard and John Daggian were pillars in defense and showed how the rest of the team should be playing. At ahlft time we were trailing by 22 points.
Endeavour was the message at half time, have a crack at this mob. Unfortunately it was not our day, we were scoreless in the 3rd term with OX piling on 4 more goals to put the game out of our reach. Sam Dawborn is a terrific young player, a future captain of the club and he showed heart all day, it’s rare that you get older blokes at the club listening to a 20 year old but he impresses with his message and maturity every week and is a pleasure to play with.
The last term saw Richie Goodey get on the end of a long drop pount down the ground and he finished truly with class from 50. Angus Harlock and Dom McDermott tried hard all day as they have all year. The final score saw us 58 points down.
With another strong side in De La Salle next week, we look to make amends from last week and the first time against the boys in Blue and Yellow. With a bit more grunt and attack on the ball and player I can see the team finding their feet again and singing it loud in the Cardinal Cave next week.
