ST KEVINS: 5.8-38
OLD SCOTCH: 14.9-93
The final game of the home and away season was upon us, however with finals around the corner Old Scotch’s season was far from over. A bit of luck or a big win would see Old Scotch move from third to second on the ladder just in time for finals next week.
Despite dominating possession in the first quarter Old Scotch failed to score with the big full forward Will Clark heavily outnumbered by St Kevins defenders who rightly recognised him as a goal scoring threat. A lucky free kick to St Kevins in their forward 50 resulted in the underdogs leading at quarter time by a goal.
Old Scotch responded strongly kicking five goals to one in the second quarter coming into half time with a three-goal lead. Both sides were welcomed with rain to begin the second half suiting hard nuts Alex Capp and Josh Edwards who were first to the ball in the wet contest. Fred Osborne was a clearance machine for the second game running giving our forwards the best chance to extend the lead to 25 points at three quarter time.
The boys came out firing in the last quarter, looking for a late percentage boost. Super coach Mark Gnatt was quick to move dangerous big man Fraser Morrisby up forward after playing an important role down back. The move did not disappoint! Morrisby kicking five goals in the final term to lead the boys to a 55-point win over SKOBS.
Luckily enough De La Salle defeated Old Xaverians in the final quarter putting Old Scotch second on the ladder. With the boy’s finals bound and playing in a first semi-final they’ll need all the support they can get to get them over the line and secure themselves a spot in the granny!
