NEW COACHING APPOINTMENTS FOR 2024 FINALISED
Andrew Millar
We welcome Andrew Millar to the club, and congratulate him on being appointed as the Men’s 1st XVIII Senior Assistant Coach.
Andrew attended Scotch College in the 1980’s and then went on to represent Hawthorn U19s in 1989. He returned to play at Old Scotch from 1990, and his time as a player and off-field representative included leading the VAFA Senior A Grade Goalkicking in 1991 (64 goals), playing in the Senior A Grade Grand Final in 1998 and then coaching the Thirds (2004-06) and Reserves (2008).
Away from Scotch he was an Assistant Coach at Old Geelong FC in 2016 when they saluted as D Grade Premiers. He also went on to support his sons at junior level, holding coaching and director of coaching roles at Greythorn Falcons in the YJFL and then oversaw the merger as President of the newly formed Balwyn Greythorn Jets in 2021.
Outside of his sporting endeavours he’s dedicated to his family of wife Natalie and sons Jonathon (now a student at Scotch) and Samuel and has worked in key senior management positions for a number of years.
We look forward to Andrew and his family being part of Old Scotch once again.
Rhett Wilsmore
We also welcome Rhett Wilsmore and his family to the club, and congratulate him on being appointed as a Men’s 1st XVIII Line Coach and 2nd XVIII Head Coach. Rhett brings a wealth of football experience with him having been a 1st XVIII – 200 game player, vice-captain, best and fairest winner and premiership player with the Mulgrave Football Club, as well as performing senior assistant and caretaker coaching duties in his off-field life with them. In addition to this Rhett had time with the Port Colts Football Club where he was a playing assistant coach as well as being senior vice-captain.
Mackenzie Morgan
We welcome Mackenzie Morgan to the club, and congratulate him on being appointed as a Men’s U19s Head Coach. Mackenzie brings a strong elite level sporting background with him having played football at Colts and Reserve Grade level in the WAFL with Claremont, and then spending five years in the USA playing gridiron at college level as a punter, before before returning to Perth and working for the Western Australian Football Commission (WAFC) as a Participation Officer.
In his role with the WAFC he was exposed to key development programs such as the WAFL Men’s U15s, U18s and the Women’s Kirby Bentley Cup, as well as coaching the Scarbrough U20s in the Perth Football League.
On arriving in Melbourne, Mackenzie will be taking up a role with Prokick and dedicating time to his coaching in the gridiron punting environment as well as leading our youngest male charges.
Taylah Gatt
We welcome Taylah Gatt to the club, and congratulate her on being appointed as the Women’s 2nd XVIII Senior Assistant Coach.
Taylah is a Mornington Peninsula girl and current North Melbourne player in the AFLW, having been recruited from Dandenong Stingrays and is now into her third season with the ‘Roos, having played 26 games in a very strong team, predominantly as a quick, line breaking winger, who had the honour of playing in the AFLW 2023 decider vs Brisbane.
In short, as a player, Taylah was noted as being “……..one of the league’s best young players in 2023” and went onto win North’s ‘Best Young Player Award’ last season.
Outside of her sporting endeavours she’s a student at Deakin University in Sports Science and has a natural inclination to coaching, and bar the Shearers and Johnny Molony, no one lives closer to our doorstep.
We look forward to Taylah being part of Old Scotch.
