MIMI HILL WINS CARLTON AFLW BEST & FAIREST

CONRATULATIONS MIMI!

Old Scotch star Mimi Hill has taken out Carltons AFLW Best and Fairest award after a thrilling 2022 Season 7 with the Blues.

Hill, who stared for Old Scotch in their 2019 premiership won the Blues count by two votes, polling in every round this season.

Hill began her football career as a junior with Kew Comets in the YJFL before joining the VAFA Women’s Competition to play with the Scotch Stars in Division One.

In 2018, Hill was too young to play in the women’s teams’ inaugural year but was involved with the club which gave her a greater hunger to play in 2019.

During her two seasons with Old Scotch, Hill won a premiership in Division One with Scotch defeating Old Brighton in the Grand Final. Hill was also named the best player on the ground in that match, which captured the eyes of AFLW recruiters.

Hill also captained the Oakleigh Chargers in her bottom-aged year while also representing Vic Metro.

In 2020, Hill was drafted at pick 12 and played six games in her debut season.

However, 2021 presented her biggest challenge after she suffered an ACL injury which ruled her out of action for 12 months.

Hill returned in AFLW season six where she won the NAB AFLW Rising Star award.

Hill, aged 20, played every game this season and it proved to be her best yet as she averaged 23 disposals a game playing in the midfield, including a career-high 33 disposals in round five.

After talking at the best and fairest presentations, Carlton AFLW coach Daniel Harford was pleased for Hill but also very excited about her future.

“She is still so young which is exciting because we know she can become an even better player and continue to grow in the leadership space over the coming years,” he told the Carlton website.

Speaking at the Carlton AFLW awards night after her being crowned best and fairest winner, Hill said it was a great thrill to take home the award.

“To think back that I did my ACL last year is pretty crazy and I couldn’t have predicted any of this and I’m so honoured” she said.

Hill has gone from being a VAFA hero to a Carlton hero and everyone at the Old Scotch Football Club congratulates her on her achievement.
