NEIL CONNELL APPOINTED MEN’S SENIOR ASSISTANT COACH

We are pleased to announce Neil Connell has been appointed as our Men’s Senior Assistant Coach, starting in 2022. Neil brings a wealth of coaching, administrative and playing experience in the AFL/community footballing landscape. Neil Connell brings the IQ, experience, successful track record and personality/character which will fit very well into our club culture. 

Neil’s playing career included being captain of Collingwood under 19’s, VFL premiership player at Werribee, premiership player at both North Heidelberg & Bundoora in the Northern Football & Netball League (NFNL), a playing representative in the Victorian Championships winning team and best on ground in the Riddell premiership team in the Riddell District Football League.  

Neil’s coaching career includes North Melbourne Development Coach, Match day bench coach and runner, Northern Knights Head Coach (NAB League – Coach of the year) and Bundoora (NFNL) where he was recognised as the AFCA Northern Region Senior Coach of the year. Neil has spent the last 16 years at North Melbourne Football Club, including the key role of Player Wellbeing Manager in recent years.  

Neil Connell will work closely with two talented young coaches in Mark Gnatt (Men’s 1st XVIII Coach) and Brendan White (Men’s 1st XVIII Assistant Coach). We are in an excellent position to build on the foundations laid and commence our ascent up the ladder towards our strategic goal of winning the VAFA Men’s Premier ‘A’ Section premiership. We welcome Neil and his family to the Old Scotch Football Club.
