It is with great sadness that we advise you of the passing of Honorary Life Member (in 1981) Geoff McCracken, affectionately known to all as “Crackers”. Geoff was a devoted Old Scotch man whose commitment to our Club spanned decades and whose contribution to our community was both extraordinary and immeasurable. He was a passionate custodian of the Club’s history, a tireless volunteer, a trusted adviser and, above all, a loyal friend to generations of Scotch footballers and supporters.

Geoff’s love for Old Scotch was evident in everything he did. He played 133 games for the club, and he shared with me that he wasn’t the greatest of players, but that he just loved the camaraderie of playing and training with his mates.

He probably left his most indelible legacy in his commitment to the club in an off the field capacity. Whether maintaining records, celebrating the achievements of past and present players, supporting Life Membership nominations, advocating for those who served the Club, or simply sharing a story from years gone by, he approached every task with enthusiasm, generosity and an unwavering commitment to preserving the spirit of Old Scotch. His knowledge of the Club’s history was unparalleled, and he took enormous pride in ensuring that the people who built our Club were remembered and recognised. The honour boards that surround our rooms are there thanks to Crackers, as was the club’s centenary book. He was the club’s historian from 1972…a 54 year labour of love for Crackers.

Geoff served on the club’s committee as Treasurer for 8 years and was Vice President for 3 years from 1984 – 1986. He then rejoined the committee as Secretary from 2008-2011 and was Football Administration Manager in 2012 and 2013.

For many within our community, Geoff was one of the first people they met at Old Scotch and remained a constant presence throughout their connection with the Club. He had an extraordinary ability to make people feel welcome, valued and part of something bigger than themselves. His humour, warmth and genuine interest in others endeared him to players, coaches, officials, life members and supporters alike.

The passing of Geoff leaves a significant void within the Old Scotch family. While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life of remarkable service and dedication. His legacy will live on through the culture, traditions and relationships that he helped nurture over so many years.

On behalf of everyone associated with the Old Scotch Football Club, we extend our deepest sympathies to Geoff’s family and loved ones. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.

Vale Crackers. we will remember him for his unwavering support, for his somewhat pedantic attention to detail and for his infectious energy. Thank you for your friendship, your service and your unwavering love for Old Scotch. You will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
